Sports and Faith: A Match Made in Heaven

Recently a volunteer of LHM—Madagascar, who teaches physical education at a local high school, had the idea to hold an event for his students that combines two of the things he loves: evangelism and athleticism.

“Why not organize a sports event,” Felixe suggested, “to gather hundreds of teenagers (over the course of a month), and grasp the opportunity to reach them with the Gospel message?”

The staff members of LHM—Madagascar were very supportive of the idea, and accepted the proposal of a soccer tournament with the theme of “Sports and Faith.” The competition consisted of 28 teams, four of which were teams of girls.

In the end, two games (one for the boys, and one for the girls) were played to determine victory.  Before starting the final matches, Felixe read two Scripture passages from the Bible in a time set aside for devotions.

Afterward, the high school’s headmaster thanked the LHM—Madagascar staff for making the competition possible.

“We are very thankful for the spiritual education and materials you have brought to us,” said the headmaster.  “You have made this event a success.”
